Last night, Texas congressman Ron Paul was a lone anti war voice on the stage. Paul defended his truly conservative position against the war, as the other candidates tried to twist his position for applause. After the debate, as it was obvious that Paul's message did get thru despite Sean Hannity and GOP lackey Michael Steele lobbying for Paul being banned from future debates as the congressman was actually winning Fox's own post debate poll with a 30% share. By the time Paul was intervie...

Recently, I wrote an article about Jesus, The Bible and prayer. The article was not a condemnation of Christian faith, but rather intended to perhaps find answers for questions that I had. Of course, some took offense and thought the intent was to discredit Jesus. For the rest of us, we had a pretty good discussion and I got a good variety of perspectives from several JU'ers. I look for God in different places perhaps. I find God in a child's eyes or in a picturesque sunset. I am sorry ...

There has been a lot of talk here, like everywhere about gas prices recently. I thought this story might be of interest to those involved in the discussions.... Link

(note: this post has all the brevity of "Alice's Resturaunt" ... i apologize in advance. my orig. reply on this subject was deleted from a post (referenced in the link) that i am in no way blacklisted or banned. i have chosen not to participate there for the past 2 months. so this long ramble is the result...enjoy! ) You just have to laugh. The lil girl writes yet another overly defensive diatribe about flaming online, particularly on JU. And per usual, she got it all wrong. In her ...

Most people who are at all active in politics or have any interest in our government usually have their favorite ammendments to the Constitution. Some love the 1st Ammendment. Journalists, activists and anyone with an unpopular or at least a perceived minority voice will often cite their 1st ammendment rights to speech, religion and assembly. Some Love the 2nd Ammendment. Some to the point they fantasize about someone actually trying to pry the gun from their "cold, dead hands." Wh...

I, like many , have seen the reports about 6 Muslims planning an attack on Fort Dix, New Jersey over the past few days. It's great that they caught these guys, although, again, it had nothing to do with any of the money we have blown on high tech equipment or efforts we have exhausted on eliminating rights in the name of freedom. But more on that later.... 1st, my question... Why is this attack considered to be terrorism? Isn't part of terrorism's definition an attack on a civillian tar...

My jury is still out on the issues of climate change and alternative energies. And while some things are encouraging, I realize that there is no "magic bullet" that will make all of our climate change, pollution and national security questions, et al, go away in an instant. I, like most, am not an environmental scientist, nor do I play one on TV. So, I, like most, depend on what I read, hear and see to form a viewpoint based more on other's expertise than my own. Unlike some other areas, this...

Yesterday, the Politico reported that ex-NYC Mayor, Rudy Giuliani gave to planned parenthood, the evil face of the pro-choice movement to anti-choice activists. Rudy gave contributions, according to his tax records, in 1993, 1994, 1998, and 1999. Also, Giuliani has addressed crowds more recently, making a case that republicans should adopt the more "libertarian" stance on abortion, like him. For example, he appeared at a NARAL / Pro-Choice America luncheon in 2001,where he voiced a con...

The American people are discontent with out election process. Some of us prefer to "pick and choose" our particlar issues, especially the left and right wing pundits. But the fact is that our whole elcetion process, from start to finish needs a makeover. A big extreme makeover. Let's start with campaign finance. It is a big issue indeed. One one hand, you have the people that believe money = free speech. In the other camp, we find the "regular people can't afford to run for office" crowd....

I've prayed for many things in my life. I've never kept a tally of my prayers and theri result, but like most, who pray on a daily basis, I am quite sure that my prayers were not answered most of the time. For most of my life, that hasn't bothered me. Like most people with faith, I was told about God's mysterious ways and told that it might be my fault that my sincere prayer wasn't answered. Many reasons are given, and looking back now, none of em make a lick of sense. After all, Jesus, ...

Last night, 10 GOP candidates for President took the stage at the impressive Ronald reagan Library in California. The debate was hosted and moderated by MSNBC's Chris Matthews. New to the Presidential debates in general was the asking of questions from Politico.com readers. And while the new twist was refreshing, most candidates couldn't deal with the questions and brushed them off or dodged them more often than not en route back to their previous agenda. Most of the candidates came prep...

"Cnet" does a great job of exposing online scams. As does organization and websites like snopes.com and factchecker.com. And most of us are aware of the email scams about making millions from some dude in africa who only wants you to do a money transfer for him or respond to "phishing" scams and whatnot. Of course, those scams continue because not everyone is aware, and even some that are let their greed get the best of them sometimes. But most of us are not prepared to be scammed by...

While the nation argues with itself over what to do or not to do about issues concerning climate change, pollution and our general stwardship of the planet, Delaware has taken a significant step towards energy independence. The 1st State to ratify our Constitution has given the go ahead to put up for a vote, with the full PSC commission, a plan to build the nation's first off shore "wind farm" that would produce from 200 to 300 megawatts of power with as many as 100 turbines. The plan als...

The commercial is funny, and runs on cable news shows regularly. A man, in a nice Suburban setting, is showing the audience his nice life that includes all the ammenities and cool stuff. Then he asks rhetorically, "How do I do it?" and answers himself,,, "i'm in debt up to my eyeballs!" as his family and neighbors go about their business in the backround, oblivious to his pleas for help. It still cracks me up. And like a lot of humor, it's funny because it's true. Fact is, we are ...
