Last week, after the initial crowds died down, I went to go see the new Michael Moore flick "Sicko" about the state of health care in America today. I purposefully went after the initial release so I wouldn't be there in a big fanatic crowd. And in fact, I chose a matinee showing to further my isolation. So, it came as a bit of a surprise to walk in to the theater to find I had to sit near the front. The theater was not totally full, but pretty close. Anyway, I took my free popcorn I ...

The 2nd quarter fund-raising totals are coming in this weekend. Already it has been reported by the Obama camp that they are literally smashing any precedents of the "number of individual donors" reporting numbers of over 250,000 in just the 2nd quarter alone. And the folks who follow the campaigns are impressed. And indeed, I think it is safe to say that Barack Obama is energizing people who haven;'t been involved or interested in politics ever or at least a very long time. His crowds at l...

A new poll came out today that showed that 58% of Americans now believe that our political system needs a 3rd party. That is up from 40% just a few years ago. Today, CNN did a poll asking if America needs a 3rd party and Jack Cafferty reported that no one, and I mean no one, wrote in and said "everything is just fine." I think it is safe to say that a majority of Americans would prefer it if the 2 major parties did not have such a stranglehold on our national politics, and in many areas of...

Recently, a mother and child were kicked off of a flight for no other reason than a flight attendent's bad attitude and appararent lust for complete control. Not only that, the flight attendent actually seriously reccomended forcing drugs on a child that wasn't being violent, loud or out of control in any way. Apparantly, according to eyewitness reports, this mother and child were on the flight, as it was doing it's taxi to the runway. The child, doing as children do, was innocently repeat...

This afternoon, it was announced that Amy Polumbo, Miss New Jersey, will indeed keep her crown despite the efforts of an annonymous coward who threatened her and the title she had earned. Miss Polumbo should serve as an example to others who are the victims of a cold hearted coward that tries to use blackmail to achieve their means. What she did was not back down. While i'm sure law enforcement was busy looking into the matter, the best thing she did was stand up, and put the photos that ...

I have no idea how many copies of the "Political Machine" that Stardock Inc. sold. All I know is that I bought one. And I very much enjoyed the game. Of course it had it's flaws and limitations, but overall it was a good simulation experience, in my view. The game had at least some of the elements I like in my strategy games. It had some depth, like the Avalon Hill games of old or like old "Strato-Matic" sports games. It was politically based, so, of course a political junkie like me cou...

In going through some of the lil quizzes after locamama put out the ones on political persuasions...i came across this one...have fun... You Are 60% Open Minded You are a very open minded person, but you're also well grounded. Tolerant and flexible, you appreciate most lifestyles and viewpoints. But you also know where you stand firm, and you can draw that line. You're open to considering every possibility - but in the end, you stand true to yourself....

Love em or hate em, Rush is a unique band. They have thrived and survived as Rock's premiere power trio for about 33 years or so now. Being a trio in itself isn't the most common set up for a band. And unlike many trios, Rush doesn't take all the credit while shifting much of the musical load on sidemen who play sometimes literally backstage while the trio soaks up all the applause. They always have from day 1 done it all by themselves. Over the years tho, Rush has not been shy about usin...

A lot has been said over the past few weeks over President Bush's handling of the Scooter Libby case. Amongst the rhetoric was an exchange between the Clinton camp and the White House where charges of "being above the law" were met with new definitions of "chutzbah" by the respective foes. And we were all certainly entertained. But President Bush's actions have seemed to do far worse damage than anything that involved Mark Rich. As seemingly corrupt as that move was, and make no mista...

In the next few weeks, events could shape up in a way that will have the potential to be more important in shaping the 2008 primary than all the debates, polls and quarterly earnings statements thus far. It is a relatively small tax bill that could be key in determining each of the leading democratic Presidential candidates view from the “working class” of America. The bill deals with the issue that wall street millionaires and billionaires have utilized a loophole in the tax code whereas...

This week the Obama campaign is celebrating record setting fundraising efforts for the 2nd quarter of the year. The campaign is reporting raising over 32 million dollars. Handily beating Hillary Clinton and trouncing the rest of both the GOP and Democratic fields. In addition, the campaign is reporting a record 238,000 new donors. This is far more individual donors than any campaign has reported in a quarter in election history. Plus, in addition to meetings with former Secretary of State...

In a pretty surprising move, reports say that President Bush made a "b-line" towards the Oval office after meeting with Russian President Putin in Maine and emerged with an announcement that Scooter Libby's sentence would be commuted. This means he will serve no prison time. Libby's 250,000 dollar fine and loss of his law license will stand. The commuting of Libby's sentence comes after 2 of 3 Republican appointed judges upheld the 30 month sentence imposed on Libby for perjury and obstruc...

Late last week, I had the chance to sit down and talk with one of the Republican party's most respected representatives. He is especially respected in conservative circles. But because he is not anything like the typical brand of showboating neoconservatives that flood the media, he retains that respect throughout the halls of Congress. I am talking about Congressman Joe WIlson of South Carolina's 2nd District. Congressman Wilson has enjoyed serving the people of South Carolina's 2nd dis...

Some people just don't understand what the constitution is about. Especially what the "Bill of Rights" and the other ammendments are about. They are never about taking away the rights of citizens. They are about either expanding those rights which "shall not be infringed upon" by the government or limiting power of government. Ammendments of the constitution are not swords to be used against people with the force of the Federal government. That is what bills, laws and statutes are about....
