unless you believe that the Justice Dept. is there as the "muscle" of the administration ...
It seems the Attorney General's days may be numbered.
Today, Senator Arlen Spector joined a growing chorus of bi partisan lawmakers calling for the removal or resignation of Alberto Gonzales. He described Gonzales's continued tenure as a threat to our future.
"I have a sense that when we finish our investigation, we may have the conclusion of the tenure of the attorney general," Specter, R-Pa., said during a committee hearing. "I think when our investigation is concluded, it'll be clear even to the attorney general and the president that we're looking at a dysfunctional department which is vital to the national welfare."
This comes after stunning testimony from former Deputy Attorney General Comey testified about Gonzales and then White House Chief of staff Andy Card trying to get an intensive care laden John Ashcroft to put an "X" on a piece of paper so they could illegally wiretap Americans. Ashcroft refused to sign, pointing out that Comey was the Attorney General during his incapacitation. Comey refused to sign off on the plan as well. Senior Justice Dept. officials were also warning the Whitehouse about the legallities of the program and demanded changes.
Gonzales testified before Congress however, that there were no objections to their scheme. It is a deliberate mischarachterization at best. And appears to be more of an outright lie. And I doubt Mr Gonzales's lack of reccolection will save him here.
Of course, after that situation, John Ashcroft faded away into the political landscape and Gonzales took over and we all know how he has shielded the administration and attacked political foes with the office. An office that is supposed to represent "blind" justice. This justice dept. represents the administration and their agenda.
And to hell with the Constitution, Congress, courts, american people or whomever are stand in their way.
And it's time to stop this madness.
It's time to show Mr Gonzales the door, if he doesn't realize his welcome has worn out.
update...The Senate is now considering putting up a "no-confidence" vote in regards to Gonzales. (5/17/07 3pm)
