I think the problem with Big Ben is he is yet to be healthy this season. From the motorcycle accident to thumb surgery to having his appendix removed to last week's concussion he has yet played a game when he has been close to ready to play. Not only hasn't he been ready physically he hasn't been ready mentally.

Dr. Guy mentions 'ego' being the problem and I agree, but not for the same reasons. He thinks winning a Super Bowl at a young age has made his head big. I think being young, big and strong has made him feel he can do anything. (Probably the same attitude that made him ride a motorcycle without a helmut even though he's an inexperienced rider). Big Ben thinks he could come right back and play without getting enough reps in practice. He needed it to play at the speed of the game. He wasn't ready and he looked slow as hell out there. I'm not talking physically but his football decisions weren't as fast as last year.

No way should he have started last Sunday. Nor should he have played in game 2 or 3. I don't blame Ben at all though. You asked injured players if they want to play and most times they will say they are "ready to go". Of course Ben is going to say he is looking forward and expecting to play any Sunday.

I put the blame all of it on Bill Cowher, the Steelers coach. I understand his fondness for Big Ben, especially after winning his long awaited championship. Cowher needed to look at this season though, not still think of last season. Charlie Batch, the back-up quarterback played superbly in game one. He should have kept playing until one of two things happened. Either he started playing bad or until Ben got completely healthy enough to play.

Cowher's loyalty has quite possibly cost Pittsburgh this season, especially in a very tough conference. Now he has taken it to the point where if he takes out Ben now he may ruin his confidence for not only this season, but maybe even next season. The only thing he can hope for is the concussion that Ben had is bad enough where he HAS TO sit. Then Batch can come in and do his thing while Big Ben hopefully recovers both physically and mentally.
