I just was over at the Libertarian party site....Took their quiz (takes about a minute or 2) on what my political leanings are.

Here's what it showed...

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

CENTRIST

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Go and see where you fit on their chart,,,you may be surprised...

I came out centrist, but I don't really think it is a good indicator. To most of the questions my answer would be "Leave it to the voter".

There's a lot of nuances to each question that the quiz doesn't take into account. Should drugs be legalized federally, or should each state be allowed to decide? What will be done with the national ID cards, and what information would they carry.

The social welfare ones are almost unanswerable. I don't know of many republicans that want social welfare programs to be completely done away with. Most either want them scaled down or done differently with different perks for people who really want to help themselves.

The draft thing depends on the circumstances. I think the WW2 draft was necessary, and the world is a better place now because of it. I think the Vietnam and Civil War drafts were disastrous.

I would have liked more generalized questions that weren't so obviously tied to partisan ideals. People who self-identify by political party can easily pick out which would make them appear as what they want people to think they are. A good test would be harder to rubber stamp.

I guess what I am saying is the kind of black-and-white opinions being solicited by the quiz are the PROBLEM with out politics. Sweeping statements like that without discussion of the nuances of each leave us paralized by catchphrases and useless ideals.

i think what this shows is that most of us aren't as far off of each other as this rhetoric would suggest. that divisive issues have made us think the other people are a lot more different than us than the same. in fact, lose the spins and most people want most of the same things.

i think the quiz is asking you how you would vote on the issues (in response to the "ask the voter" position, which again, i think most people would agree with, at least to a point).

and lastly, keep in mind, i put this up there to be fun,,,not to label everyone. but i think of myself as a centrist at times, leaning slightly libertarian...and that's where i came out. i esp. feel that way when my conservative friends think i'm too liberal and my liberal friends think i'm a conservative, lol

enjoy:)

LIBERTARIAN

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and

economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one

that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose

government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate

diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

No Surprise there.  But to Baker, I would leave it to the voter as well.  However, being a voter, I would vote that way on the issues presented.

that's what i was trying to say above,,,well put guy

i guess i'm not clever enough to put my chart on there (i tried , but it didn't copy) but just fyi,,,i came in centrist (as stated before) at the crossing above the "e" in centrist towards libertarian.

They manage to do so with personality tests by asking derivations of the same question repeatedly to kind of trick you into answering it truthfully. It could probably be done in this case as well, but it makes the test much longer.

yeah, they are kinda counting on the tested one to be honest with themselves...but that isn't such a bad thing imho.
