the following is a reprint of a review i wrote on this place,,,,i was thinking today, looking out into the muck of a march snowfall, how nice it was,,,,enjoy,,,
We just got back from spending 5 great nights at Fisherman's Point. We arrived there, tired and fatigued from the journey. Our bellman, Ernest, took great care in checking us in and getting us everything we needed to relax that evening. And just about every day, Ernest stopped by to make sure we were comfortable. And thanks to him and the rest of the staff, we were.
Housekeeping was excellent and the resturaunt has one of the best tasting snapper dishes i ever had. Our room, a 1 bedroom on the 1st floor, cabin #1 to be exact, was most excellent. Only problem was a malfunctioning water heater. The staff had it fixed within 2 hours of reporting it (including getting a part rushed to them) and did it right the 1st time.
On the downside, the resturaunt is a bit pricy and may do better business by shaving it a bit. Also, a system to charge things to the room while staying there would be helpful to the guests. A breakfast buffet might be nice, at a reasonable price, or a more inclusive package may be offered. Also, maybe a little entertainment might be cool...they don't have to go for something raucous like over at the island village, but maybe some island acoustic music by the pool in the evening or by the resturaunt might be nice (maybe play poolside and run speakers into the resturaunt.) like my title said, this place has potential...it is very nice and has a great location. if they want some consulting in the area of that and some other ideas, they can feel free to contact me...anyway...
on our last night, there was a nice little crowd at the bar, so i joined them. during our stay, we had been fortunate enough to meet people from canada, england and elsewhere, and some of the locals (the staff was most friendly, and they didn't do it for tips,,,it was genuine). it seemed that night, people that we had met and others gathered at this "round table" and we all had a great time with lively conversation about everything from food to politics, and everything in between. the diverse perspectives reflected the great conversations that i had all thru our stayin Ocho Rios. by the time it closed down, i knew we had a great visit at fisherman's point.
i have some great ideas on how they could utilize the facility better, but for a first trip for me, my wife and 5 year old son, they made us feel at home and want to come back. thanks again to ernest, bobby brown, carmen, who braided my wife's hair most beautifully, and all of the staff there...we tip our hats and thank you once again:)
