The Heritage Foundation likes to tout a study they did that apparantly "proves" that raising the minumum wage somehow increases inflation, raises unemployment and besides, the only people making that wage (or less) are rich suburban kids. They contend that we hurt those folks (who, in the last sentence didn't exist outside of a cushy suburban home) who will somehow be impacted negatavely by having a few more dollars in thier pocket. It's all nonsense! If we look at the last 4 increases...

On Tuesday, The 110th Congress will go into what has been dubbed their "1st 100 hours." It's not technically the 1st 100 hours that the new Congress is in existence. That would end somtime Sunday if they were going by that. And it's not the 1st 100 hours from 12:01 Tuesday either. It is the 1st 100 legislative hours, meaning the 1st 100 hours that Congress is in session. What does the new Congress have in store for the nation? Here is a detailed summary of their agenda. Kind of thier versi...

What is your opinion. Do the people we elect to office serve the public or lead the public? Some tend to think that an elected official is there to represent and vote how his constituents want them to. Others feel that when someone is elected, it is then up to them how to vote. For most it seems, they want their official to lead when their opinion is in agreement with the politician. And likewise, serve when their opinion disagrees with the politicians view. It's similiar to how w...

Back in the 90's, I found myself disgruntled in the political world. I had registered Republican when I turned 18 in 1985, but over the years it seemed that neither of the 2 parties adequately represented my views. There were things I liked on both sides, but just as much I didn't like. this wasn't all policy based. Both parties had people I liked, and people I didn't. Both parties had members do things I approved of, and just as many who had broken my trust. Furthermore, both parties jus...

Now, maybe I have seen it all in politics. Next Tuesday may prove that statement wrong, but for now, I think I have. Two days ago, Senator John Kerry was stumping for the already defeated California democratic gubenatorial candidate. Kerry went into a bunch of one-liners about President Bush. As usual, John Kerry is no Henny Youngman or even Carrot Top. In his monologue, he made a reference to people who don't pay attention and study in school "get stuck in Iraq." This obscure line wou...

Harold Ford is running ofr Senator in Tennesee. The culturally conservative democrat has ran, by modern standards, a pretty good campaign. The same can't be said for his republican opponent or his party. Bob Corker has allowed the RNC to run highly inflamatory racist ads in Tennesee. Corker claims to distance himself from the ads, which show white women suggesting Ford "call them" to have some fun. The old black man, white woman thing. Another ad, attacks Ford's father as being just anothe...

This morning, I was thinking "what platform planks would MY political party have?" This is what I came up with in my head this morning. Keep in mind, these are platform planks, not policies or plans. they are not minutely detailed or specific. Tax Policy....taxes should be minimalized and simplified. Not endorsing a totally "flat tax" but the tax code should be simple and universal. The poor do not pay taxes, except "use taxes" such as sales tax. Fairness is key. Foreign Policy...Ame...
